A passion for music

 I. Stella Maris

Text from: “Ave Maris Stella”

Author: St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Ave, maris stella
Dei mater alma,
atque semper virgo,
Felix cæli porta.

Solve vincla reis,
profer lumen cæcis,
mala nostra pelle,
bona cuncta posce.

Vitam præsta puram,
iter para tutum,
ut videntes Jesum
semper collætemur.

Sit laus Deo Patri,
summo Christo decus,
Spiritui Sancto
tribus honor unus. Amen.

English Translation

Hail, star of the sea,
Nurturing Mother of God,
And ever Virgin
Happy gate of Heaven

Loosen the chains of the guilty,
Send forth light to the blind,
Our evil do thou dispel,
Entreat (for us) all good things.

Bestow a pure life,
Prepare a safe way:
That seeing Jesus,
We may ever rejoice.

Praise be to God the Father,
To the Most High Christ (be) glory,
To the Holy Spirit
(Be) honour, to the Three equally. Amen.

II. Hidden Treasure

Text from: “Morning Offering”

Author: Fr. Joseph Kentenich

Ea quae ferro patiorque

Ea quae dico et audeo,

Ea quae puto et diligo

Quae mereo omnia merita

Id quod dirigo atque vinco

Gaudia omnia dolores que omnes

Ea quae habeo et me ipsum

Tibi do dono amoris

English Translation

What I bear and endure,

what I say and what I dare,

what I think and what I cherish,

all the merits that I gain,

what I direct and what I conquer,

all my joys and all my sorrows:

what I am and what I have,

I give to you as a gift of love.

III. Fleet

Text from: “Flos Carmeli”

Author: St. Simon Stock

FLOS Carmeli,

vitis florigera,

splendor caeli,

virgo puerpera

singularis.

Mater mitis

sed viri nescia

Carmelitis

esto propitia

stella maris.

Armatura

fortis pugnantium

furunt bella

tende praesidium

scapularis.

Per incerta

prudens consilium

per adversa

iuge solatium

largiaris.

Porta caeli

Mater coronaris gloria

Porta nos ad salutem

Ubi filius invenitur

Altum gaudium. Amen.

English Translation

FLOWER of Carmel,

Tall vine blossom laden;

Splendor of heaven,

Childbearing yet maiden.

None equals thee.

Mother so tender,

Who no man didst know,

On Carmel's children

Thy favors bestow.

Star of the Sea.

Strongest of armor,

We trust in thy might:

Under thy mantle,

Hard press'd in the fight,

we call to thee.

Our way uncertain,

Surrounded by foes,

Unfailing counsel

You give to those

who turn to thee.

Hail, Gate of Heaven,

With glory now crowned,

Bring us to safety

Where thy Son is found,

true joy to see.
