Program notes:
Meditatio on Regina Caeli is a piano solo inspired by the Regina Caeli chant. While writing this piece, I meditated on the meanings of specific words, like doing a “lectio divina” on the text. The words that stood out to me were “Queen” (majestic, adorned with jewels, shimmering, beautiful, wise, powerful), “Heaven” (Beauty, Truth, Goodness, peace, love, unity, family, God, trinity, vast, timeless, intricate, masterpiece), “Rejoice” (exuberant, praise, ecstatic, energetic), “Risen” (ascent, repair, antidote, salvation, heroic, surprise, creative, unexpected, surpassing expectations, joyful), and “For us” (little, humble, insignificant, unrepeatable, unique, immensely loved.) I echoed and repeated phrases of the chant’s melody in a meditative style, marked by three distinct meditative sections, representing the trinity.
