Program Notes:

To be “Counter” is to do something contrary or opposite. With modern culture today changing so rapidly, we all need to have something to believe in. With many opinions rapidly swirling in opposite directions, sometimes we have to take a moment, breathe, and look at things from another angle. Perhaps we may be nudged to take “Countermeasures” to stand up for the truth. Or, we may experience an epiphany or some life-altering event that opposes our former beliefs, leaving our perspective forever altered.

Countermeasures was commissioned by Vanessa Davis-McKay to be premiered at the 2020 Clarinefest in Reno, Nevada. Because of COVID-19, the premiere was postponed to the 2022 Clarinetfest in Reno, Nevada.
