Life often feels as if we are traveling at breakneck speeds, in desperate search of our own success, power, money, etc. Then we are suddenly faced with an unexpected storm, which can expose our vulnerability and make us feel afraid, hopeless, and uncertain.
A compass helps to navigate uncharted waters.
Being faced with a crisis can help us realize what is most important. It reminds us that we are all on this boat of life, and we are all perishing. We cannot go on thinking of ourselves. Only by rowing together can we ride through this storm. If we rely on faith, there will be no shipwreck.
What is your compass?
Compass was inspired by Pope Francis’ “Urbi et Orbi” speech on Mar. 27, 2020, during the Global Pandemic of 2020. It was commissioned by the International Clarinet Association for President Mitchell Estrin.
